This is a print of a well known Currier & Ives Lithographic illustration, entitled 'The Whale Fishery', originally lithographed & copyrighted in 1861. This however is a reprint that dates back to the 1940s or 1950s.
The scene depicts a great sperm whale, destroying a ship, and it's crew falling into the sea. There are several other sailing ships in the scene too.
Measures appx. 14 1/4" Wide by 10" Tall. The back side features another well known C&I Print, entitled The Life of a Hunter... this item could be displayed on either side...
Condition is Very Good / Excellent, with No Stains, No Writing, No Folds, No Holes, No Foxing, and only a few Very Small Edge Tears, that effect only the border area.
This is a great candidate for matting and framing...
