19th Century Steel Engraving ~ The Mother ( Nude Sculpture )

Outstanding, large format with accompanying page of text.

Outstanding fine steel engraving entitled 'The Mother', originally sculpeded by R. Artlett and skillfully engraved by F.R. Roffe, from the group by J.H. Foley, A.R.A.

There is undoubted truth in a remark made by the philosophical German writer Schlegel: "Formerly it was the fashion to preach the natural, now it is the ideal. People too often forgrt that these things are profoundly compatible ; that in a beautiful work of the imagination the natural should be the ideal, and the ideal natural."

Comes with companion page of text. Each measures appx. 10" Wide by 13 3/4" Tall. An absolutely perfect candidate for a double matte and antique frame.

Condition is Excellent / Outstanding, with No Rips, No Crease Folds, No Stains, No Writing, No Foxing, No Holes. Please Note: There is a Very Minor bend to the lower left corner of the engraving... and a small right edge tear on the companion page... both will dissappear once matted.
